69 years of Skopje’s liberation

With a number of cultural, humanitarian and sporting events, today Skopje is celebrating the Liberation Day.

Mayor Koce Trajanovski will meet representatives of the Macedonia’s WWII Veterans Organisation. A delegation of the city of Skopje will lay flowers at the monument of Skopje liberators and that of General Mihajlo Apostoloski in Butel-city cementeries.

At 11:30 am, top delegations will lay flowers at the monument of liberators of Skopje outside the government’s building.  Traditionally, once again this year the Red Cross of the City of Skopje organizes a blood donor campaign. A traditional autumn student mountain tour will be held on the occasion of 69h anniversary of Skopje’s liberation. In the Macedonian Opera and Ballet will be opened an exhibition of paintings from international art colony “Skopje 2013″. Afterwards, Skopje mayor Trajanovski will present “13 November” awards to this year’s winners.

13 November 1944, Skopje was liberated by Partisan units of the Macedonian National Liberation Army. Soon after, Skopje became capital of the newly established People’s Republic of Macedonia.
