Air pollution drops from overnight highs, but is still over maximum allowed concentrations

Concentrations of PM10 particles in the air over Skopje, Bitola, Kicevo and Tetovo remain over the maximum allowed amounts on Wednesday morning, even though they are lower than overnight.

Air quality measuring stations found 190 micrograms of particles per cubic meter in Tetovo, 106 micrograms in Bitola, 83 in Kicevo, 75 in downtown Skopje and 57 in the Lisice area.

Overnight, concentrations were at 798 micrograms in Tetovo, 559 in Lisice and 384 in Centar. Most Macedonians use wood for heating, and in some cases, in poorer areas, even plastics, which together with the low winds, causes serious air pollution over winter.
