As predicted by the opposition, wife of top Zaev lieutenant appointed to the Judicial Council

Judge Loreta Georgieva, wife of Zoran Georgiev, manager of the Strumica public utility company, is the expected winner for the open seat the the Judicial Council. Even ahead of her appointment, VMRO-DPMNE announced that she will be the next member of the Judicial Council, given how close her husband is to Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, who was mayor of Strumica, and how much the Government invests in controlling the judiciary and using it against its political opponents. The Judicial Council is the body tasked with electing new judges and dismissing those who have abused or failed at their office.

– Unfortunately, we’ve seen that in the past two years the judiciary is badly falling behind European standards. VMRO-DPMNE doesn’t want to interfere in the appointment process in the Judicial Council, but we need to have an answer if the candidate for this position is already chosen and if the seat is kept for judge Loreta Georgieva from Strumica, VMRO-DPMNE spokesman Naum Stoilkovski said during a press conference last week. Stoilkovski then pointed out the partisan way in which leading judge Dobrila Kacarska and prosecutor Vilma Ruskoska use their positions in the many cases against VMRO-DPMNE officials and members.

Another questionable appointment to the Judicial Council is taht of Zoran Teofilovski, judge from Gostivar. He is the son in law of Aleksandra Zafirovska, former president and member of the Judicial Council for over 12 years.
