Borisov: Support for Macedonia’s EU and NATO bid and agreement on good neighbourhood

The policy of Bulgaria regarding Macedonia remains unchanged and consistent. We have stated more than once that we support Euro-Atlantic integration of Macedonia, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said Friday answering question of the MP and former Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin.

He reminded that they have stated for many times that Bulgaria is ready to provide Macedonia an expert assistance so that the country achieve progress on its road to EU and NATO membership.

We have clearly emphasised that Bulgaria expects Macedonia to fulfill EU membership criteria including the principle of good neighbourliness, Borisov said.

Bulgaria will keep on insisting on necessity of signing an agreement of neighbourhood, which as he said, remains a priority.

The agreement does not mean imposing additional requirements to Macedonia and it will mean legal binding of political agreements reached with declaration of prime ministers from 1999, Borisov said.

He positively noted the cooperation between the two countries within cross-border cooperation programme expressing hope that will continue in the future.

Borisov expects that high level officials of the two countries to meet in the next one to two weeks.
