Constitutional Court passes interim measure to stop election activities

The Constitutional Court unanimously decided Wednesday to initiate a procedure over assessment of the constitutionality and legality of the Decision for the Parliament’s dissolution and passed an interim measure to stop all election activities.

The Court’s decision will be published in the Official Gazette later today, thus formally entering into force.

The court will pass the final ruling on the initiative for the Parliament’s dissolution next week.

The initiative was submitted by DUI MP Talat Xhaferi. The Constitutional Court rejected a similar initiative by Democratic Alliance MP Pavle Trajanov and World Macedonian Congress president Todor Petrov back in February over the delayed dissolution of the Parliament.

However, the Constitutional Court said the Xhaferi initiative includes entirely new elements to be analyzed.
