Construction begins on first environmentally friendly residential area in Skopje (photo)

Construction began on Thursday on a new, environmentally friendly planned community called Alexandria in the western part of Skopje, in the Gjorce Petrov municipality. The community will feature 500.000 square meters of residential area and first buildings are expected to be completed in July 2017. Once completed, it will be able to house 20.000 families.


The Karpos construction materials factory is investing in the residential project, and its management says that this will be the first planned community that is built in accordance with environmental standards. Gjorce Petrov Mayor Sokol Mitrevski added that the development will greatly improve quality of life in the municipality. Saso Endrovski from Skopje who took part in the competition to name the community was awarded the keys to one of the apartments to be built.

The community will also feature a number of children’s playgrounds, a commercial area, gas stations, kindergartens and other amenities. Alexandria is being built right on the bank of the Lepenec river, and will be serviced by several existing and planned boulevards for downtown access.
