EC expecting Macedonian party leaders to sign Skopje agreement next week

The European Commission and Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn next Wednesday (June 10) are set to welcome all four leaders of the largest parties in Macedonia in an effort to conclude the negotiations aimed at putting an end to the political crisis in the country, based on the agreement reached earlier this week in Skopje. This has been confirmed by sources in the European Commission after the calendar of activities of EU commissioners for next week was officially announced on Friday, MIA reports from the Belgian capital. “Mr Johannes Hahn meets with the political leaders from FYROM in Brussels,” the EC agenda reads.

Earlier in the day, SDSM leader Zoran Zaev told the media he would not be attending next week’s meeting in Brussels due to ‘bias demonstrated on Hahn’s part.’ European Commission officials say they expect Zaev and the other three leaders to arrive in Brussels so as to sign the agreement which will resolve the political crisis in Macedonia. “The meeting is scheduled on Wednesday when we will welcome Nikola Gruevski, Zoran Zaev, Menduh Thaci and Ali Ahmeti… It is expected to conclude the framework agreed in Skopje to find a way out of the crisis and the agreement to be signed with which the country should meet its reforms and result in early parliamentary polls in April 2016,” the EC source told MIA.
