For the first time in 12 years a Greek plane lands at Skopje airport: Kotzias arrives in Skopje!


Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias and Thursday at International Airport Skopje for the first time since renaming of the airport, which was one of the concessions that Macedonian government made in the negotiating process between Macedonia and Greece for name dispute settlement.

This is the first time in 12 years that a Greek plane has landed at the Skopje airport.

Kotzias was welcomed by a Macedonian delegation, and tonight will have a working dinner with Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov, in preparation for Friday’s tight schedule of the Greek minister.

During his two-day stay, Kotzias is scheduled to hold talks with Nikola Dimitrov, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, Deputy Prime Minister Bujar Osmani, Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi and leaders of VMRO-DPMNE and DUI, Hristijan Mickoski and Ali Ahmeti.

Talks will focus on the positions of two sides, after Greece and Macedonia exchanged draft-agreements on settling name dispute.

Kotzias will not meet with President Gjorge Ivanov it has not even been requested by Greece, the President’s office has said.

Dimitrov and Kotzias will meet UN envoy Matthew Nimetz in Vienna on March 30.

According to the Greek media outlets, the negotiations are entering a crucial phase after the proposals are submitted by both sides.

Name issue was one of the topics discussed at the meeting between Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and his coalition partner Panos Kammenos held Tuesday in Prime Minister’s palace in Athens. Kammenos after the meeting told that the position of Independent Greeks (ANEL) opposing the use of term Macedonia is unchanged adding that the ball is now in the Macedonian court.
