Goseva: Janeva’s statements are unacceptable and irresponsible

Elena Goseva, Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, condemned the statements by Special Public Prosecutor Katica Janeva as unacceptable and irresponsible.

“Statements by Katica Janeva aimed at denying and degrading the state institutions are unacceptable, irresponsible and are not part of the competencies given to her. She should know that the Republic of Macedonia is a democratic and independent country that has functioning institutions based on Constitution and laws, in accordance with democratic principles”, Judge Goseva said in a written statement on Wednesday.

The Chief Justice adds that no-one has the right to act in a way that is counter to the Constitution and the laws, and to join a campaign – like push to denigrate the institutions.

In the past weeks, the Constitutional Court was subject of often unruly protests by supporters of the opposition SDSM party, over a decision on a law on pardons. Special Prosecutor Janeva said that, according to the cache of illegal wiretaps given to her by SDSM, the Parliament, the President and the Constitutional Court are illegitimate institutions. President Gjorge Ivanov rebuked Janeva for this statement, and the ruling VMRO-DPMNE party group in Parliament asked for her apology.
