Gruevski: Macedonia’s media, judiciary under pressure of new government

The pressure on media and judiciary and overall situation in the Macedonian society under the new government were the main topics of Thursday’s meeting in Brussels of opposition VMRO-DPMNE party leader Nikola Gruevski with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

On Thursday, Gruevski also referred to the same topics in his address at the European People’s Party Summit, MIA correspondent reports from Brussels.

Speaking to reporters, Gruevski said that at his meeting with Mogherini he underlined the need for Macedonia to promptly join EU and NATO. He also notified that the upcoming developments and processes in Macedonia required close monitoring.

In this respect he mentioned the developments within the sphere of media under the new government.

‘I am referring to the pressure on media, their owners, including the pressure of the Special Public Prosecutor, as well as the new government’s intentions under the cover of fresh judicial reforms to establish full control of the judicial system,’ Gruevski said.

Gruevski also held talks with the European Parliament’s rapporteur on Macedonia, Ivo Vajgl.
