Ivanov-Tsipras: Confidence building measures require dialogue

Macedonia and Greece should resume the dialogue surrounding the confidence building measures, concurred President Gjorge Ivanov and Greek PM Alexis Tsipras at their meeting held on the sidelines of the UN climate conference in Paris, MIA reports.

In addition to the confidence building measures, Ivanov and Tsipras discussed the current migrant crisis, according to sources from Ivanov’s office.

Both Ivanov and Tsipras reiterated that it was necessary to resume the dialogue between the countries in all spheres, especially in terms of two key issues – the migrant crisis and the confidence building measures. Today’s meeting was the second one this month between Ivanov and Tsipras.

Earlier, President Ivanov held meetings with his counterparts from Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Austria for talks on regional and bilateral cooperation, the shared aspiration of all countries in the region to join EU and NATO, the migrant crisis and prospects to increase economic cooperation.

With mutual confidence, economic and political cooperation being on the rise, cooperation in relation to and sharing of security and intelligence information is lacking, according to Ivanov. The latest challenges, the migrant crisis, emerging extremism in the region and the global terrorism threat require urgent cooperation, exchange of data and efforts to manage the situation on daily basis, Ivanov urged in the meetings.

The Macedonian President on the sidelines of the Paris conference also met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
