Joint investment projects for increased growth of Western Balkans

Western Balkan countries need to work on joint investment proposals in infrastructure, energy and education, ahead of the second conference planned as part of the Berlin process, Macedonian Chamber of Commerce asked during a regional conference of Chambers of Commerce. German Chancellor Angela Merkel initiated the Berlin process last year, inviting Balkan leaders to a conference that is expected to push the region into closing open issues and spur cooperation on mutually beneficial programs.

“Our region amounted to mere 1,1 percent of the total trade of the European Union, which is a very poor result. We need to double our efforts to intensify our trade and development”, Elizabeta Milevska Strbevska, from the Macedonian Chamber of Commerce, said at the opening of the conference that brought business representatives from the region.

Regional chambers agreed to form a Balkan wide investment forum and a center for regional projects. Chambers will continue to meet every three months, to work on joint proposals, in order to make the most of the Berlin process.
