Macedonia and Bulgaria to jointly export agricultural products in China

Bulgaria and Macedonia are to cooperate in export of agricultural products on Chinese market, Macedonian Agriculture Minister Mihail Cvetkov said after the meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart Desislava Taneva in Sofia.

Macedonia and Bulgaria will hardly be able to independently export fresh fruits and vegetables in China due to the great distance, but with joint efforts access to the huge Chinese market is not unattainable, Cvetkov said.

Given the enormous distance it would be better to direct to canned agricultural production. We also produce very good wines in Macedonia. We can also direct towards canned fruit and vegetable, meat and dairy products which you also have in Bulgaria. Fresh agricultural products will be hardly to be placed due to great distance, Cvetkov said.

Both ministers also discussed trade exchange of agricultural products between Macedonia and Bulgaria, Bulgarian television Kanal 3 reported.

Cvetkov said that the trade exchange in agriculture between the two countries is not large. Macedonia exports agricultural products amounting to €20 million and imports around €40 million to Bulgaria. Those figures do not correspond to the possibilities and it is necessary to work on increase of mutual trade not only between the two countries, but also on third markets.

The two ministers also talked about the Bulgarian experience in agriculture after country’s accession in the EU. Macedonia as a candidate country for EU membership is to use Bulgarian experience and will organize its agricultural economies to meet European requirements, Cvetkov said.

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Mihail Cvetkov takes part at conference on lumpy skin disease in Sofia on September 8-9. The conference is organized by the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the European Commission.
