Macedonian Parliament adopts draft laws on education, state exam to be subject of one-year trial period

Macedonia’s lawmakers adopted Wednesday the draft law on higher education, which is part of the educational reform package that today also won the MPs approval.

The most disputed amendment to the higher education law - an introduction of external, state supervised exams for graduates - will be a subject of one-year trial period upon an initiative of the Skopje University. Namely the Ministry of Education and Science endorsed a proposal, put forward Tuesday by the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, on implementing a pilot project for the state exam prior to its official introduction.

“This amendment is acceptable for both the Ministry and the Government. The Ministry and the Board for Accreditation and Evaluation will decide in the upcoming period which faculties, universities and curriculums should be part of the pilotproject,” Minister of Education and Science Abdulaqim Ademi said at Wednesday’s parliamentary session.
