Minister Jolevski at forum on army support of civilian structures

Defense Minister Zoran Jolevski takes part at forum “Legal aspects of support to civilian institutions and organizations by the defense”, organized by the United States Embassy and the Defense Ministry in Ohrid on Thursday.

The meeting is held within the project launched a year ago, in which members of national state institutions in charge of crisis management paid a visit to the U.S. counterpart institutions, seeing first hand how activities of the Army and the National Guard are coordinated during natural disasters and other crisis incidents.

“U.S. experts share their experiences over coordination of actions by state institutions”, said Jolevski.

Regarding the recent floods in the Skopje region, he said the army was engaged in mitigating the consequences from day one.

“The ministry is currently making analyses over the challenge response and ways to improve. We are here to see how U.S. institutions responded during crises, such as Hurricane Katrina, floods in Vermont etc. Exchange of experiences with the United States and other NATO member-states is very significant for Macedonia”, stressed Jolevski.

The forum includes 47 experts from the ministries of defense, foreign affairs and interior, the President’s Office, Crisis Management Centre, the Government’s General Secretariat, experts and lecturers from U.S. national institutions.
