MoI: Firecrackers threaten health; sale punishable by law

The Ministry of the Interior has issued a public safety notice regarding the illegal use of firecrackers, sparklers and other fireworks, urging citizens to report anyone selling them by calling the toll-free number 192.

“The unauthorized use of pyrotechnics—such as firecrackers, bottle rockets, and other flares and fireworks—that violates public order and threatens citizen safety is punishable by law. Fines amount from EUR 200 to 500,” the Ministry’s notice reads.

Minors are reminded that firecrackers are a common cause of injury, generally causing burns, lacerations, amputations as well as eye injuries leading to permanent visual loss, enucleation (loss of an eye), or blindness.
