NATO: Macedonia has historic opportunity to join Euro-Atlantic family

NATO Spokesperson Oana Lungescu told MIA after the start of Macedonia’s Alliance accession talks on Thursday that the country now has the historic opportunity to become a part of the Euro-Atlantic family, provided it implements the Prespa Agreement.

“The country made an important step today by starting the two-day accession talks at the NATO Headquarters. The negotiations cover security, defense, political, legal and financial issues, goals and timeframes that Skopje needs to meet during and after accession. The country has the historic opportunity to implement the Prespa Agreement and become a member of the Euro-Atlantic family, thus consolidating peace and stability across the Western Balkans,” said Lungescu.

The Macedonian delegation, led by Defense Minister Radmila Sekerinska and National NATO Coordinator Stevo Pendarovski opened today’s session alongside NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Alejandro Alvargonzález.
