Parliament revokes Gruevski’s immunity

Nikola Gruevski’s Parliamentary immunity was revoked on Tuesday, when 62 members of Parliament from the ruling coalition voted in favor of this proposal. None of the members of Parliament from VMRO-DPMNE attended the Parliament session.

The decision was expected to be adopted, given that only 61 votes are needed in Parliament to revoke the immunity. Previously, the ruling majority failed to altogether revoke Gruevski’s mandate as member of the Parliament – a move which requires 81 votes.

Skopje Criminal Court sent a total of six requests to revoke Gruevski’s immunity, connected to the charges filed against him by the Special Prosecutor over the past several years. Gruevski left Macedonia two weeks ago and received political asylum in Hungary, as victim of political persecution.
