President Ivanov attends the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov is in Istanbul, where he attends United Nation’s World Humanitarian Summit. President Ivanov is one of 50 heads of states and Governments that take part in the summit, which has over 5.000 participants from around the world.

Ivanov will speak at a plenary session on political leadership in conflict prevention and resolution. The first lady Maja Ivanova will also attend a special session on women and children in areas hit by conflict.

This is the first ever summit of this type, convened by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, with the goal to focus on forced displacement of people and to reduce suffering of refugees. Turkey is a temporary home to millions of refugees from the Middle East, expelled by the brutal fighting in Syria and Iraq.
