Presidential Palace in Ankara will be protected by air defense systems

The newly built Presidential Palace in the Turkish capital of Ankara will be protected by air defense systems, as a precautionary measure following the failed military coup on 15 July. During the coup, Turkish Air Force officers and generals allied with the plotters and carried out air attacks on the Palace, the Parliament and Government buildings.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the public to help him defeat the coup, which was put down within hours. Following the attempt, thousands of officers have been detained and replaced, with suspicions about their loyalty.
