Russia opens Honorary Consulate in Ohrid

The Russian Federation opened an Honorary Consulate in Ohrid on Wednesday in the presence of representatives of the diplomatic corps, Macedonia’s government officials, church dignitaries and other guests.

Russian Ambassador to Macedonia Oleg Shcherbak handed over his country’s decree for appointing the rector of Skopje University ‘Ss Cyril and Methodius’, Prof. PhD Velimir Stojkovski, for an honorary consul.

Opening of this consulate will strengthen the traditionally good relations between Macedonia and Russia, and contribute substantially to bolstering the overall cooperation, especially the cultural one, the Russian Ambassador said at the opening ceremony.

Thus far Turkey, Poland and Slovenia have opened honorary consulates in Ohrid, which, as announced, will be a host of diplomatic offices of many other countries.
