Stavreski: Agriculture insurance policies rise by 63%

The number of insurance policies issued to farmers is on the rise. Data show that farmers have signed 3,784 contracts to insure their sowed lands with 60% of the costs being covered by the government.

Speaking at an event marking Insurance Day (Nov. 1), Deputy PM and Finance Minister Zoran Stavreski said insurances in agriculture this year marked a growth of 63% compared to 2014.

“In 2008, the government introduced a measure to support insurance premiums for primary agricultural production, natural disasters and unfavorable climate events. The number of signed contracts is constantly on the rise. In 2008, only 146 applications were filed, whereas today so far 3,784 contracts have been signed,” stressed FinMin Stavreski.
