Zaev cancels trip to Vienna, won’t attend regional meeting due to domestic problems

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev will not attend the lunch on Monday which Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is organizing for heads of regional governments.

It’s expected that the Prime Ministers of Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro and Bosnia will all attend the meeting, Serbian news agency Tanjug informed, but Zaev will not be there. According to Tanjug, Zaev cancelled his trip due to domestic political issues. His Government is still reeling over the way former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski left the country to seek political asylum in Hungary, as well as the difficult process of amending the Constitution and renaming Macedonia.

European Commissioner Johannes Hahn will also attend, given that Austria holds the rotating presidency of the European Council.

Main topics of discussion are expected to focus on economic cooperation and regional conflicts.
